DOHA, Jan 14, (KUNA): Kuwait is keen on issues promoting human rights and justice, said a Kuwaiti official here Thursday. Speaking to KUNA on the sideline of a regional event organized by Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on promoting human rights in the Arab region, Assistant Minister at Kuwait Ministry of Foreign Affairs and head of the newly establish office of human rights in the Ministry Talal Al-Mutairi said that his country has always championed issues of human rights.

He said that the Foreign Ministry’s human rights office was established as evident of Kuwait’s continuous quest to improve the treatment of human beings, adding that the office was in charge with dealing and connecting with international human rights organizations. On the legislative level, said Al-Mutairi, the National Assembly is working on the formation of a human rights national diwan to protect the rights of people.

Regarding Kuwait’s participation in the regional conference, Al-Mutairi said that Kuwait was eager to benefit from the experiences of others within human rights, stressing that the main objective of the event was to bolster cooperation amongst Arab states within this field.
