KUWAIT CITY, Feb 20: The Blood Transfusion Services Department at the Ministry of Health launched its annual blood donation campaign, "Kuwait with My Blood," on Thursday, which will run until the 28th of this month. The campaign is held under the patronage of Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi in celebration of Kuwait's national holidays.
In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Dr. Reem Al-Radwan, Director of the Blood Transfusion Services Department, explained that the initiative aims to promote the spirit of giving and solidarity among everyone living in Kuwait. "It represents a wonderful model of national spirit and social solidarity," she said.
Dr. Al-Radwan emphasized that donating blood is not only a humanitarian responsibility but also a national duty. As part of the campaign, donors will be presented with souvenirs during the national holiday celebrations as a token of appreciation for their contributions, symbolizing their love for the country.
The campaign will include various blood donation events organized in collaboration with governmental and private institutions. These initiatives play a crucial role in strengthening the healthcare system by ensuring that there is a sufficient and sustainable supply of blood and blood products.
This year, the campaign was launched at both the Amiri Diwan and the Kuwait National Petroleum Company. Upcoming donation events will involve the Indian and Pakistani communities, as well as several embassies.
In 2024, the total number of blood bags collected exceeded 95,000 units, with donation campaigns accounting for approximately 22% of the total donations.
