KUWAIT CITY, Jan 19: The Minister of Information, Culture, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, affirmed that Kuwait's selection as the Arab Capital of Culture and Media for 2025 highlights the country's achievements in arts, media, and cultural dialogue.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Information on Sunday, Al-Mutairi emphasized that this milestone reflects Kuwait's leadership in fostering connections among diverse communities globally. He also credited the continuous support of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah for Kuwait’s prominent cultural role.
The selection was made by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), with the Council of Arab Ministers of Information choosing Kuwait for its efforts in advancing and hosting media events.
Al-Mutairi explained that preparations for this designation began in line with the Ministry of Information's 2021-2026 strategy and the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters' (NCCAL) 2023-2028 strategy. These frameworks aim to establish a sustainable cultural environment that promotes creativity while fostering a pioneering and purposeful media industry.
The Minister emphasized that Kuwait's vision as the Arab Capital of Culture and Media for 2025 focuses on enhancing the country's cultural and media standing, showcasing its rich cultural heritage, and advancing digital media.
Al-Mutairi revealed that the program will include approximately 98 activities over 235 days, reflecting Kuwait's diverse cultural and media landscape. The events will feature both global and Gulf-wide initiatives aimed at promoting cultural and media cooperation.
The opening ceremony for Kuwait as the Arab Capital of Culture and Media will take place on February 13, and it will feature the national theatrical performance The Earth’s Orbit. Additionally, a press conference will be held on January 26 to present the full program of events.
