Kuwait National Assembly approved amendments for inmate rehabilitation

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 12: On December 12, the National Assembly of Kuwait approved the amendment of certain articles within Law 17/1960 and the introduction of new legislation focusing on the "rehabilitation" of convicted individuals. During the initial round of voting, 49 Members of Parliament (MPs) expressed support for the relevant bills, with 12 opposing votes. In the subsequent round, 48 MPs voted in favor, while 12 were against, and a single abstention was recorded in a session attended by 61 parliament members.

Essentially, the approved bills involve amendments to the "rehabilitation duration" for specific considerations. The legislation emphasizes that a convict must undergo "rehabilitation" to facilitate their reintegration into society. According to additional provisions, the "rehabilitation" period is mandated to align with the duration of the sentence.
