Kuwait Police Arrest Fake Cop Linked to Multiple Thefts

KUWAIT CITY, Mar 11: The Criminal Security Sector has successfully resolved four criminal cases by identifying and arresting a 33-year-old man, transforming the cases from "unknown perpetrator" to "known perpetrator." A security source confirmed that the accused is currently under investigation to determine the full extent of his involvement in criminal activities. Once the detention period expires, he will be referred to the Public Prosecution. The referral report will include evidence such as a fake ID purporting to belong to a Ministry of Interior employee, the suspect’s confessions and justifications, and a victim’s identification of the accused. According to the investigation report, the suspect is described as someone who shows blatant disregard for the law.

Details of the Arrest
The arrest followed a complaint filed by an expatriate at the Hawally Police Station. The victim reported that an individual had stopped him, presented an ID, and then quickly returned it to his car before demanding to see the victim’s identification. When the victim attempted to display his residency details using the *My Mobile Identity* app on his mobile phone, the accused snatched the phone and demanded his wallet, stealing its contents. When the victim tried to intervene, the accused assaulted him and fled the scene.

In response, a specialized task force was formed to track down the suspect. Using vehicle data linked to the thief, detectives located and apprehended him after a brief struggle and an attempted escape. The suspect, a Kuwaiti citizen born in 1992, was found in possession of a fake ID falsely identifying him as a member of the Criminal Security Department.

Confessions and Additional Crimes
During interrogation, the accused admitted to the crime under investigation. When questioned about the stolen money, he confessed to using it for personal expenses, citing financial difficulties. The victim was later brought in to identify the suspect in a legal lineup and immediately recognized him.

Further investigation revealed that the accused was involved in three additional, similar crimes in the Hawalli, Khaitan, and Farwaniya areas. All cases were classified as felonies, involving theft and impersonation of security personnel.

Criminal History and Warnings
The detectives’ report highlighted the accused’s blatant disregard for the law, noting his history of narcotics and psychotropic substance use, as well as repeated impersonation of security personnel. He is also wanted in other cases related to impersonation and theft.

The security source emphasized that detectives are regularly instructed to display their official identification during inspections. When on foot patrol, they are required to wear IDs indicating their workplace, job title, and military rank. The source also urged expatriates, in particular, to always request identification from anyone claiming to be a detective, as this is their right and a crucial step in preventing such crimes.
