PARIS, Aug 6: Captain Ali Al-Marri, Director of the Kuwaiti Mission to the Paris Olympics and Assistant Secretary-General of the Kuwait Olympic Committee confirmed that preparations are underway for upcoming international and continental events through the Olympic Champion Project, aiming for podium finishes at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

He explained that the Kuwaiti Mission concluded the Paris Olympics with athletes achieving personal bests and records, though they did not secure any medals. Al-Marri emphasized that the athletes performed at their highest levels and represented Kuwait with distinction. Kuwait wrapped up its participation in the 33rd Summer Olympics in Paris, which concludes on August 11.

Kuwait’s participation included nine athletes competing in six sports: Khaled Al-Mudhaf and Mohammed Al-Daihani (shooting), Yousef Al-Shamlan (fencing), Mohammed Al-Zubaid and Lara Dashti (swimming), Yaqoub Al-Youha and Amal Al-Roumi (athletics), Suad Al-Faqan (rowing), and Amina Shah (sailing). Despite their high spirits and determination, the Kuwaiti delegation left the Paris Games without any medals.

The fencer Yousef Al-Shamlan was eliminated in the round of 32. Rower Suad Al-Faqan set a new personal record of 8:05.18 minutes after reaching the final round of Group E. Swimmers Mohammed Al-Zubaid and Lara Dashti were eliminated in the 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke heats, respectively. Shooters Khaled Al-Mudhaf and Mohammed Al-Daihani were eliminated in the trap and skeet heats.

Athlete Amal Al-Roumi was eliminated in the 800m freestyle heats, and an injury prevented Yaqoub Al-Youha from completing the 110m hurdles race. Amina Shah finished 42nd in the Women’s Single Sailing Race (Alka 6) in her first Olympic participation, achieving the best result for an Arab participant by finishing 30th in the final race with 43 competitors.
The Kuwaiti delegation showcased their efforts and dedication, aiming to achieve greater success in future Olympic events.
