PARIS, July 22: The Kuwaiti flag was raised at the headquarters of the Kuwaiti delegation in the Olympic Village in Paris as soon as the administrative delegation arrived for the Games. Upon arrival, the administrative and technical delegation immediately began coordinating preparations to welcome the athletes. They reviewed arrival and departure protocols and finalized the schedule for technical meetings and training sessions for each sport.
Kuwaiti athletes are now arriving in Paris in preparation for the competitions in the six sports Kuwait is participating in archery, fencing, rowing, swimming, athletics, and sailing. Kuwait is represented in the 2024 Paris Olympics by nine athletes competing in six sports: Khaled Al-Mudhaf (trap) and Muhammad Al-Daihani (skeet) in archery; Yousef Al-Shamlan (saber) in fencing; Yacoub Al-Yawha (110m hurdles) and Amal Al-Roumi (800m) in athletics; Muhammad Al-Zubaid (100m freestyle) and Lara Dashti (100m breaststroke) in swimming; Souad Al-Faqaan in rowing; and Amina Shah in sailing.
President of the Kuwaiti Fencing Association, Abdul Karim Al-Shamlan, highlighted that Yousef Al-Shamlan's preparations for the Olympics have been ongoing for over a year, including participation in external training camps and intensive training sessions under his Italian coach, Giovanni Maria. Al-Shamlan recently won a bronze medal at the Asian Fencing Championship held in Kuwait last June.
Abdul Karim Al-Shamlan further explained that Yousef Al-Shamlan completed his training camp in Blue Scatie, Italy, and has now joined the Kuwaiti delegation in Paris. Competing for the first time in the Olympics, Al-Shamlan will participate in the saber events, with preliminary rounds starting on the 27th of this month.
