KUWAIT CITY, Aug 17, (KUNA): Kuwait has continued distribution of humanitarian aid to people in need in many parts of the region this week, helping Syrian refugees and Yemenis who live amidst an armed conflict in their country. Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) joined hands with Jordanian Red Crescent and distributed clothes and meat to 2,200 Syrian and Jordanian families during the Eid Al-Adha holiday.
The three-day humanitarian campaign, which began on first day of Eid Al- Adha, aims at giving clothes to Syrian orphans and refugees living in camps dotted around Amman. This campaign will benefit 700 families, said Hayat Marzouq, head of KRCS team.
Speaking to KUNA, Marzouq said this campaign also included distribution of meat to 1,500 Syrian and Jordanian families during Eid Al-Adha holiday. She thanked Jordan’s Red Crescent for their logistical support that contributed to delivery of aid for people in need KRCS also launched a similar campaign during Eid Al-Adha in Lebanon.
The Kuwaiti society, in cooperation with Lebanon’s Red Cross, distributed hundreds of packages of clothes and packages of meat for Syrian refugees in the north and east of Lebanon. Mona Al-Shatti, head of KRCS team, told KUNA they visited a bread distribution center and helped in giving out loaves of bread to Syrian and Palestinian refugees. In Yemen, KRCS opened a number of relief projects in Maareb governorate, part of Kuwait By Your Side campaign. The projects include a foundation stone for the drilling of a water well and installation of a pump and pipes in Jufaina camp for the internally displaced persons (IDPs). KRCS also provided nine incubators for the newborn in three hospitals.
The Kuwaiti society also distributed 350 livestock for 248 families in six Yemeni governorate during Eid Al- Adha holiday. Meanwhile, Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation distributed meat on Iraqi IDPs and families in Irbil during Eid Al-Adha holiday. Kuwait Consul General in Irbil Dr Omar Al-Kandari said the distribution of meat was part of Kuwait by Your Side campaign, and within His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s instructions to help alleviate suffering of the Iraqi people. He said more than 2,600 families received Eid Al-Adha meat.
