KUWAIT CITY, April 28: The General Traffic Department's latest statistics, covering the period from the 20th to the 26th of this month, have revealed alarming figures regarding road safety in Kuwait. According to the report, a total of 1,542 traffic accidents occurred during this timeframe, with 248 classified as serious accidents. Additionally, 1,394 minor accidents fortunately did not result in injuries or fatalities.
The weekly data also highlighted a staggering number of traffic violations, with authorities issuing 23,744 citations. Among these violations, 35 juveniles were apprehended for driving without valid licenses, while 36 individuals were detained for committing serious traffic offenses.
In a bid to curb such violations and enhance road safety, traffic police conducted extensive campaigns across the six governorates of Kuwait. These efforts led to the referral of 200 vehicles and motorcycles to impound garages.
Unfortunately, amidst these ongoing efforts, a collision occurred yesterday on the Fahaheel Expressway involving two vehicles. The collision resulted in the injury of two individuals who were promptly transported to Al-Adan Hospital. A security source has confirmed that the condition of the injured parties is critical, underscoring the urgent need for heightened awareness and adherence to traffic regulations.
The General Traffic Department continues to urge all motorists to exercise caution, adhere to traffic laws, and prioritize safety while on the roads to mitigate the risk of accidents and fatalities.
