KUWAIT CITY, Oct 15: The Assistant Foreign Minister for Development and International Cooperation, Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan, confirmed Kuwait's effective efforts in combating "radicalism" and violent extremism. This statement was made by Ambassador Al-Mashaan to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the sidelines of Kuwait hosting a workshop today, Tuesday, for the East Africa Working Group (EAWG) under the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF), co-chaired by Kuwait and Kenya, both of which joined the forum in September 2023.

Ambassador Al-Mashaan stated that Kuwait has taken proactive measures in cooperation with friendly countries to address the crisis of foreign terrorist fighters and to follow up on the agenda of this meeting subsequently. He added that the Government of Kuwait is fully prepared to receive requests for cooperation with allied nations supporting counterterrorism operations and to provide all necessary requirements, emphasizing its commitment to unifying efforts to achieve the desired goals in the specified instruments and others for the forum within realistic timelines.

He clarified that this workshop, which lasts for one day, focuses on deradicalization, disengagement, rehabilitation, and reintegration of individuals associated with terrorist groups. He noted that the workshop brought together members from the East African community, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, representatives from the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination, civil society organizations, and other member states of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum, as well as inspiring institutions.
