KUWAIT CITY, Nov 7: Kuwait came second in the Arab world behind UAE in the 2015 Legatem Prosperity Index, where Saudi Arabia came third, followed by Morocco and Jordan in fourth and fifth places respectively, reports Al-Seyassah daily. As per index published by the British Legatem Institute, Norway occupied first place among 142 countries based on their performance in eight subindices- Economy, Entrepreneurship and Opportunity, Governance, Education, Health, Safety & Security, Personal Freedom, and Social Capital.

Apart from the UAE in 30th position, Kuwait in 36th position and Saudi Arabia in 42nd position, every other Arab country in the index fell on the last half of the list, as Morocco came 97, followed by Jordan (80), Algeria (96), Lebanon (98) and Egypt (110) while Syria was ranked in the bottom with Sudan and Yemen. High performance among the first three countries came as a result of high index of performance in the economy, health and education, whereas the UAE came first in the Arab world in terms of personal freedom, while Kuwait came first in the index concerning economy.

The Legatem Institute affirmed that prosperity does not only concern individual income or the gross domestic product (GDP) of a country, it includes also quality of life and wellbeing and level of comfort and happiness of the citizens.
