Kuwait seeks approval for 'first-time' Filipino domestic worker recruitment

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 21: Abdul Aziz Al-Ali, Advisor to the Federation of Domestic Workers Offices, announced that a delegation from the Federation’s Board of Directors, led by Khaled Al-Dakhnan and including Abdullah Al-Azmi, Khaled Al-Qallaf, and Ali Shamouh, visited the Kuwaiti Embassy in Manila to meet with embassy officials.

The delegation requested Chargé d'Affaires Fahad Al-Masoud to engage with the Philippine Ministry of Labor to permit the recruitment of domestic workers who have not previously worked in Kuwait. This request was made in light of the limited number of workers currently allowed to travel to Kuwait, which accounts for only 20% of the labor market’s needs for Filipino workers. Notably, 80% of the potential workforce comprises individuals who have never worked abroad before.

The union delegation submitted a memorandum and a report to Al-Masoud, highlighting the challenges that arise if first-time workers are not allowed to travel. The Chargé d'Affaires assured the delegation that he would work to address this issue, which would significantly ease recruitment challenges and reduce the burdens faced by Kuwaiti citizens.
