Kuwait sees 8,000 new retirees in the first half of 2024

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 2: The latest data from the Public Institution for Social Security reveals that the number of retirees in Kuwait rose by nearly 8,000 during the first half of 2024. Additionally, the number of insured citizens increased by approximately 1,259 individuals over the same period.

By the end of June 2024, the total number of insured citizens, including both civilians and military personnel, had grown by 10,300 to reach 707,700, up from 697,400 at the end of December 2023. Of this increase, 8,900 were civilians working for an employer or self-employed, bringing their total to 648,800 by the end of June 2024, compared to 639,900 at the end of 2023. The number of military pensioners and beneficiaries also increased by 1,367, reaching 58,800 by June 2024, up from 57,490 at the end of the previous year.

The data shows that the number of insured civilians with the Social Insurance Corporation rose by 1,259 during the first half of 2024, bringing the total to 430,070 by June 2024, compared to 428,800 at the end of December 2023. Specifically, 410,600 insured civilians work for an employer, with an average salary of 723 dinars.

Among government sector employees, the number of insured citizens reached 336,900, with an average monthly salary of 630 dinars. In the oil sector, 22,290 insured citizens earn an average salary of 1,468 dinars, while 51,330 citizens in the private sector have an average salary of 1,009 dinars.

In terms of retirees, the number of pensioners alive increased by 8,030 during the first six months of 2024, bringing the total to 178,900 by the end of June, compared to 170,900 at the end of 2023. Among civilians, 143,330 pensioners were alive by June 2024, up from 136,400 at the end of December 2023. The number of military pensioners also increased by 1,118, reaching 35,600 by June 2024, compared to 34,500 at the end of 2023.

Living pensioners in the government sector totaled 117,630, with an average pension of 1,183 dinars. In the oil sector, there were 8,170 living pensioners, receiving an average pension of 1,845 dinars, while 11,700 private sector pensioners receive an average pension of 1,314 dinars. Among self-employed retirees, there were about 5,800, with an average pension of 755 dinars.

The number of beneficiaries and those receiving benefits increased by 1,001 during the first six months of 2024, bringing the total to 98,660 by the end of June, compared to 97,660 at the end of December 2023. Among the dependents of insured civilians, the number of beneficiaries rose by 752 to 75,420, while the dependents of military personnel increased by 249, reaching 23,230 by the end of June 2024.
