Kuwait Shuts Down Kabd Livestock Market Amid Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreak

KUWAIT CITY, Apr 22: Following the detection of foot-and-mouth disease at a farm in Sulaibiya, the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources has announced the temporary closure of the Kabd livestock market. This precautionary measure is intended to prevent the potential spread of the disease among livestock herds.

The decision was based on an official directive from Asmaa Al-Otaibi, Deputy Director General for Animal Resources, addressed to the Animal Resources Association. In her communication, she emphasized the need to suspend all market activities, including buying and selling, and to prohibit the transport of livestock to and from the market until further notice.

These steps are part of an urgent response to contain the outbreak and safeguard the health of the country’s livestock, aiming to prevent the disease from spreading beyond the affected area.
