Kuwait slams Israeli call for synagogue at Aqsa Mosque

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 27 : Kuwait Tuesday voiced its condemnation and denunciation of recent remarks by an Israeli occupation minister calling for establishing a synagogue at Al-Aqsa Mosque in a bid to wipe out the religious identity and legal status of the holy site. In a press statement, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry termed this aggressive behavior as provoking sentiments of all Muslims, while calling on the international community to take up its responsibility to put an end to the Israeli occupation’s obvious violations and breaches of international law, and to safeguard the religious and historical identity of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Also, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned on Tuesday, a statement by an extremist minister in the Israeli occupation government who called for establishing a synagogue at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In a statement by the OIC, affirmed that the city of Jerusalem is an integral part of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 and the capital of the State of Palestine. The statement continued that all the decisions taken by the Israeli occupation to Judaize the occupied Jerusalem have no legal effect and are considered null and void under international law and international legitimacy resolution. The Palestinian Authority spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh stated on Monday, that the calls by Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben- Gvir to establish a synagogue inside Al-Aqsa mosque are an attempt to drag the region into a religious war that will burn everyone, emphasizing that such calls are rejected and extremely dangerous. The organization also condemned the ongoing incursion and violations of Al-Aqsa Mosque yards by extremist settler groups and ministers in the Israeli occupation government, under the pro

These repeated violations, the organization stated, to the holy sites and freedom of worship is a blatant breach of the Geneva Convention and International Law. The organization held the Israeli occupation government responsible for the consequences of these ongoing violations, which fueled religious conflicts, extremism and instability in the region. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation reiterated its call for the International Community to take responsibility and intervene to put an end to these serious continuous violations made by the Israeli occupation and to maintain the historical and legal status of holy sites in occupied Jerusalem. Qatar also strongly condemned remarks made by Israeli occupation National Security Minister that called for building a synagogue inside Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

A statement by the Qatari ministry of Foreign Affairs said that such calls represent an extension of attempts to change the historical and legal status of Al-Aqsa Mosque and a provocation to Muslims around the world. The Ministry warned of the impact of these provocative statements on the ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza Strip, and stressed the need for the international community to take urgent action to deter the occupation and assume its moral and legal responsibilities towards Jerusalem and its holy sites. The Ministry reiterated the State of Qatar’s firm position on the justice of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

“The Palestinian people will not accept any harm to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is a red line that cannot be crossed under any circumstances,” Palestinian Authority spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said in a statement carried by the official news agency (WAFA). Abu Rudeineh urged the international community, especially the US, to immediately intervene “to restrain the Israeli extreme right-wing government and compel it to adhere to the prevailing legal and historical status of the holy site.” He added that the US political, military and financial support encouraged them to continue their aggression against the Palestinian people. Ben-Gvir claimed Monday that Jews have the right to pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque, saying that he would build a synagogue at the flashpoint site.(KUNA)
