KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23: The Kuwaiti Special Olympics delegation departed recently to participate in a regional training camp and coaching course focused on snow running and cross-country skiing. Organized by Special Olympics International for the Middle East and North Africa, the event is being held in Cairo as part of preparations for the Special Olympics World Winter Games, set to take place in Turin, Italy, in March 2025.

Fahad Al-Sahli, Assistant Secretary of the Al-Tomooh Sports Club and official representative of the Kuwaiti Special Olympics, told KUNA that the camp brings together athletes and coaches from 22 countries. Its goal is to enhance training skills and qualify participants to lead programs on an international level.

Al-Sahli highlighted the importance of this camp in refining skills and fostering experience exchange among participants, particularly as they gear up for the challenges of the upcoming World Winter Games.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Special Olympics to preparing athletes and technical teams for the global stage, emphasizing their aim to showcase a commendable image of Kuwaiti sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Al-Sahli also noted Kuwait’s outstanding achievements in the 2023 World Games in Berlin, where Kuwaiti champions secured 21 medals, further solidifying their global presence and reputation.
