Kuwait steps up efforts in combating human trafficking with regional cooperation
The Permanent National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants holds its 19th meeting

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: The Permanent National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants held its 19th meeting on Monday, chaired by Tareq Al-Asfour, Deputy Chairman of the Committee and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice. The meeting was attended by all members from the relevant authorities.

In a press statement, the Ministry of Justice stated that the meeting focused on Kuwait's preparations to host the "Sixth Government Forum for Combating Trafficking in Persons for Middle Eastern Countries." This forum will serve as a significant platform for exchanging ideas and perspectives on emerging issues related to human trafficking.

The meeting also addressed various agenda items, including both executive and legislative measures to combat human trafficking. The goal was to unify national efforts and improve the coordination of work mechanisms, aligning them with the best international standards.

Additionally, the committee reviewed the outcomes of a joint visit conducted by the committee and the Kuwait Lawyers Association to a shelter. The purpose of this visit was to enhance effective cooperation in improving the legal status of the shelter's residents.

The meeting also discussed developments in bilateral cooperation with the counterpart committee in Bahrain, aiming to exchange expertise and best practices in combating human trafficking.

Furthermore, the committee reviewed its ambitious work plan for the years 2025-2028. The plan was developed in accordance with international frameworks and subjected to a national review to ensure its alignment with Kuwaiti legislation. The committee intends to adopt and implement this plan in the near future.

The committee reaffirmed its commitment to continuing efforts to strengthen national, regional, and international cooperation in combating human trafficking, underscoring Kuwait's prominent role and status in this critical field.
