Kuwait strengthens public health with new respiratory disease surveillance system

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 13: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi launched yesterday, Tuesday, the electronic system for monitoring respiratory disease cases (2EMFLU) within the Public Health sector of the Ministry. This initiative aims to enhance preventive measures and support informed decision-making to control respiratory diseases and ensure full preparedness for any health challenges.

In a statement to the press, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Dr. Al-Munther Al-Hasawi confirmed that the platform is designed to collect and share information on the spread, severity, and impact of respiratory diseases across sentinel sites. This will contribute to creating a comprehensive picture of the epidemiological situation in the country.

Dr. Al-Hasawi announced that the system has been activated in 12 surveillance centers distributed across various regions of the country. A primary care center has been designated in each governorate or health area to monitor cases of acute respiratory infections, in addition to tracking severe respiratory infections in public hospitals. This initiative is aimed at improving the efficiency of the health response and reducing the spread of respiratory diseases.

This step is part of the Ministry's strategy to enhance the effectiveness of health responses, improve surveillance systems, and enable early interventions, contributing to the protection of community health and safety. (KUNA)
