Kuwait Strips Over 9,400 Individuals of Citizenship

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 15: The Supreme Committee for Citizenship Investigation is nearing the final phase of reviewing and auditing cases related to citizenship withdrawals under Article 8. As part of this process, the names of 9,418 women affected by the decision have been made public. The committee is conducting a comprehensive review to ensure all cases are accounted for and no names have been inadvertently omitted.

A total of four decrees and two ministerial decisions have been issued, leading to the withdrawal or revocation of citizenship for 9,464 individuals, both men and women. This includes individuals convicted in cases concerning national security and loyalty, such as those involved in financing the terrorist group Hezbollah, the Lions of the Peninsula case, and the Abdali Cell case.

Breakdown of Citizenship Withdrawals and Revocations
- Decree No. 24 of 2025: Ordered the withdrawal of citizenship from 5,694 women, including those who had acquired it by dependency.
- Decree No. 28 of 2025: Ordered the withdrawal of citizenship from 3,724 women, also affecting those who had obtained it by dependency.
- Decree No. 28 of 2025 (separate ruling): Revoked the citizenship of 38 individuals.
- Decree No. 27 of 2025: Ordered the withdrawal of citizenship from three individuals and their dependents.

Council of Ministers’ Decisions:
- One ruling ordered the withdrawal of citizenship from four individuals.
- Another decision led to the withdrawal of citizenship from one woman due to forgery.

With this extensive review and legal action, Kuwait is moving towards finalizing its investigation into citizenship irregularities, ensuring compliance with national security and legal frameworks.
