KUWAIT CITY, Oct 28: Kuwait has summoned Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait Mohammad Tutunji and handed him a formal protest note over a statement issued by the Iranian Embassy that Kuwait said amounted to blatant interference in its internal affairs and an infringement on its sovereignty and judicial independence.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Tutunji on Wednesday, with Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan handing him the protest note concerning the Iranian Embassy’s statement issued on Oct 28, 2026.

Kuwait strongly rejected and condemned what it described as interference in judicial rulings issued by its national courts, stressing that such actions violate the country’s sovereignty and the independence of its judicial authority.

Al-Mashaan called on Iran to respect Kuwait’s sovereignty and abide by international law and established international norms, particularly the principles of good neighborliness and non-interference in the internal affairs of other states.

He also stressed the need for Iran to comply with the United Nations Charter and the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Kuwait reiterated its firm rejection of any interference in its judicial decisions, emphasizing that matters concerning rulings issued by its national courts fall within the country’s sovereign jurisdiction.
