KUWAIT CITY, Jan 7: In a move to protect consumer health and safety, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition in Kuwait has announced that all food establishments, factories, and product suppliers must comply with new regulations to eliminate trans fatty acids, effective May 2025. A press conference scheduled for Sunday will outline the implementation mechanism for this regulation.
Commenting on the decision, Fahd Al-Arbash, head of the Restaurants Union, stated that the regulation is unlikely to affect most restaurants, as many already use vegetable oils. However, factories relying heavily on trans fats, such as those producing potato chips and various baked goods, will face significant adjustments.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Food Authority to enhance consumer safety and foster collaboration between government agencies and the private sector. It aligns with the Gulf Technical Regulation 2483 on Trans Fats and Product Contents, which highlights the health risks associated with the consumption of industrial trans fats. The decision underscores Kuwait’s commitment to safeguarding public health and promoting healthier food standards.
