KUWAIT CITY, Mar 9: In a move to strengthen road safety and enforce traffic laws, Kuwait has announced new regulations targeting unlicensed drivers and those operating vehicles with invalid or inappropriate licenses. The measures, set to take effect on April 22, 2025, aim to curb violations and ensure compliance with licensing requirements.
Under the new rules, driving a motor vehicle without a license or with a license that does not permit the operation of the vehicle, or with a revoked or suspended license will result in a settlement order. If the case is referred to court, the penalties may include a prison sentence of up to 3 months and a fine ranging from 150 KWD to 300 KWD, or either of these penalties.
The decision underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety and reducing traffic violations. Authorities have emphasized the importance of adhering to licensing laws to ensure the safety of all road users. The new regulations are expected to serve as a deterrent to reckless driving and unauthorized vehicle operation.
Motorists are urged to verify their license status and ensure they meet all legal requirements before operating a vehicle. The government has also indicated that awareness campaigns will be launched in the coming months to educate the public about the changes and their implications.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to improve traffic management and reduce accidents across Kuwait. With the implementation of these stricter penalties, authorities hope to foster a safer and more responsible driving culture in the country.
