KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: On Tuesday, Lieutenant General Sheikh Salem Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior and Chairman of the Supreme Traffic Council, directed the intensification of awareness campaigns in coordination with relevant authorities before the implementation of the new traffic law.
This directive was issued following the 23rd meeting of the Supreme Traffic Council, which was chaired by Sheikh Salem Al-Nawaf. The meeting was attended by council members representing the Ministry of Interior, the Ministries of Education, Public Works, and Information, as well as the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport and Kuwait Municipality.
In a press statement released by the General Department of Public Relations and Security Media at the Ministry of Interior, Sheikh Salem Al-Nawaf emphasized the importance of cooperation between government agencies and civil society in achieving the national strategic goals for traffic safety.
He also conveyed the greetings and appreciation of First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, along with his best wishes for the council’s success in its tasks.
The statement further noted that the meeting discussed several key issues, including ways to improve public transportation services (buses), reviewed the latest statistics reflecting developments in traffic safety, and examined future plans aimed at reducing traffic accidents by enhancing road infrastructure.
During the meeting, Sheikh Salem Al-Nawaf and the other members of the Supreme Traffic Council praised the Civil Service Commission’s decision to pilot a scheme allowing civilian employees to work during evening hours. They encouraged government agencies to increase the number of staff during this period. Additionally, the General Traffic Department was tasked with studying the outcomes of this initiative three months after its implementation.
