KUWAI CITY, Nov 23: Kuwait has issued seven new decrees to revoke the citizenship of 1,158 individuals and those who may have acquired it through affiliation.
The official gazette, 'Kuwait Alyom', set to publish the decrees in its Sunday edition, outlined the decision, citing a review of the Kuwaiti Constitution, the Nationality Law, and the recommendations of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
The decrees primarily target 1,145 women and individuals who obtained citizenship through dependency. Additionally, some citizenship certificates were revoked under Article 21 bis of the Nationality Law. This provision allows for the withdrawal of citizenship if it is determined to have been granted improperly through fraud, false statements, or incorrect documentation.
According to the law, the Council of Ministers, acting on a proposal from the Minister of Interior, can revoke citizenship in such cases. The withdrawal also extends to those who acquired their citizenship through their association with the original certificate holder.
These decrees mark a significant development in Kuwait’s enforcement of its nationality laws, emphasizing compliance with legal procedures and addressing issues of misrepresentation.
