Kuwait and Australia players fight for the ball during the Asian U-17 Cup qualifiers in Kuwait.

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 26: The Kuwait U-17 team is aiming for a morale-boosting victory when they face the Northern Mariana Islands at 8:30 pm at Abdullah Al Khalifa Stadium in the third and final round of Group 7 of the Asian Cup qualifiers. Additionally, Indonesia and Australia will meet in the same group at 5:30 pm, also at Abdullah Al Khalifa Stadium.

Kuwait’s hopes for one of the two qualification spots ended after a 3-1 defeat to Australia in the second round; following an earlier 1-0 loss to Indonesia in the opening match.

The competition for direct qualification now centers on Australia and Indonesia, with the runner-up holding onto hopes of advancing as one of the best second-placed teams. In total, the ten group winners and the top five runners-up will secure spots in the finals.

Although eliminated from contention, Kuwait’s roster features promising players who could make an impact in the future with continued development. The team showcased strong moments, particularly in the second half of the first match, as they overcame initial nerves and nearly equalized. This match provides an ideal opportunity for head coach Ferdo Milin to adjust the lineup and give playing time to those who missed out in the previous games.
