Kuwait urges caution amid online fraud schemes spike

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 6: The Ministry of Commerce has issued a stern warning to the public about the increasing number of fraud and scam attempts occurring through WhatsApp, suspicious emails, and unreliable websites, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The Ministry highlighted a recent surge in fraudulent activities, where scammers exploit unregistered numbers, fake companies, and dubious online platforms to deceive consumers.

The Ministry urged citizens and residents to remain cautious and avoid sharing any personal or banking information through text messages or WhatsApp with unverified parties. They advised against clicking on links from unknown numbers or unfamiliar sources, emphasizing the importance of verifying the legitimacy of companies before engaging with them. Consumers were reminded to ensure that businesses are registered and approved by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry before proceeding with any transactions.

The Ministry also cautioned against being enticed by overly attractive offers that seem too good to be true, as scammers often use these unrealistic deals to lure in unsuspecting victims. The Ministry called for increased awareness and vigilance, urging everyone to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from falling victim to these scams.
