Kuwaiti acquitted of insulting mom-in-law

KUWAIT CITY, March 11:The Court of Appeals upheld the acquittal of a citizen who was accused of insulting his mother-in-law. According to the case files, the defendant’s mother-in-law filed a complaint, claiming that the defendant insulted her. The incident reportedly occurred after the defendant filed a report against his wife, alleging that he had seen her with a stranger in a public street. He followed the pair to her mother’s house, where he quickly entered the premises. The mother-in-law, along with the defendant’s wife and other witnesses, subsequently went to the police station to file a report against him. During the trial, the defendant’s defense lawyer, Attorney Abdul Mohsen Al-Qattan, argued that there was no evidence to substantiate the accusations. He pointed out that the case documents contained no conclusive evidence that could legally support the claim of insult. Al-Qattan also emphasized that the evidence presented by the Public Prosecution – primarily the complainant’s allegations – lacked credibility and appeared to be motivated by malice or fabrication. The defense attorney stated that the defendant vehemently denied the accusations and asserted that he had not made any insulting or defamatory remarks towards his motherin- law. As a result, the Court of Appeals upheld the decision to acquit the defendant
