KUWAIT CITY, Jan 8: A bizarre case of forgery has come to light in Kuwait, where a Kuwaiti citizen added his wife’s Syrian brother (Brother-in-law) to his citizenship file in 1987, falsely claiming him as his son. The Syrian, who was 56 years old, married with children, and even a grandfather, was able to secure Kuwaiti citizenship through this fraudulent act. The man had already established a family of his own, with multiple sons and daughters, before being enrolled as a Kuwaiti citizen's son.
The case, discovered during routine nationality investigations, revealed the extent of the forgery. Upon learning of the investigations, the Syrian suspect fled to Jordan, attempting to escape legal repercussions. As a result, his children have been referred to the Public Prosecution for their involvement in the case. The Kuwaiti citizen who carried out the fraudulent act passed away ten years ago, but the family’s Kuwaiti citizenship is now being revoked as part of the ongoing legal process.
This case highlights the broader issue of identity and citizenship forgery in Kuwait, where investigations have revealed instances of individuals fraudulently obtaining Kuwaiti citizenship. Authorities have emphasized their commitment to preserving the integrity of the national identity, ensuring that such fraudulent activities are swiftly addressed to prevent further abuse of the system.
Kuwait continues its efforts to protect its national identity by investigating cases of forgery and ensuring that individuals who unlawfully acquire citizenship face legal consequences. The government has expressed gratitude for the diligent work of the investigators and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the country's laws and regulations.
