Kuwaiti authorities revoke citizenship of 4,246

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 9: The Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality held a meeting on Thursday, chaired by Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior. During the meeting, the committee decided to revoke Kuwaiti nationality from 4,246 individuals in preparation for presenting the cases to the Council of Ministers.

According to a press statement from the Ministry of Interior, the committee's decisions were based on various articles of the Kuwaiti Nationality Law No. (15) of 1959 and its amendments. The committee decided to revoke nationality from 20 individuals under Articles 10 and 11 due to dual nationality.

The statement further clarified that the committee withdrew nationality from 89 individuals under Articles 21 bis A and 13 (paragraph 1) due to cases of fraud, false statements (forgery), and individuals who acquired citizenship through dependency.

Additionally, the committee decided to revoke the nationality of one individual based on Article 13 (paragraph 4), which applies to children of Kuwaiti women.

The majority of the cases—4,136 in total—were subject to revocation under Article 13 (paragraph 4), involving individuals from 54 different countries.

This move is part of ongoing efforts by Kuwaiti authorities to ensure the integrity of its nationality system.
