KUWAIT CITY, March 30: Marzouq Al-Azmi, the Deputy Director General of the Fisheries Sector at the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources, disclosed a recent incident of illegal fishing involving a ling vessel carrying shrimp during the ban season. The ling, equipped with bottom trawl nets locally known as "fish kufa," was apprehended at dawn yesterday.

Al-Azmi emphasized that the ling vessel was caught violating regulations prohibiting shrimp fishing in Kuwaiti territorial waters from January 15 to September. This ban aims to facilitate the growth of shrimp populations and safeguard fish stocks within territorial waters.

Authorities confiscated approximately half a ton of shrimp from the vessel. Furthermore, Al-Azmi noted that the owner of the ling and its crew members have been subject to legal proceedings, with violations registered against them. The case has been referred to legal affairs to initiate necessary actions by the law.
