KUWAIT CITY, Nov 20: In its weekly meeting held at Bayan Palace on Tuesday, the Kuwaiti Cabinet, chaired by Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, approved several draft decrees and addressed critical national issues. The Council underscored its commitment to maintaining adherence to laws, particularly concerning encroachments on state property, emphasizing no tolerance for violations.
During the session, the Cabinet approved a draft decree to appoint a Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Financial Investigations Unit for a four-year term. Similarly, it endorsed a decree appointing a Chairman, Deputy Chairman, and members of the Board of Directors for the General Authority for Roads and Land Transport, also for four years. Another decree was approved to establish a committee to address complaints against decisions made by the Board of Directors of the Central Agency for Public Tenders. These decrees are to be submitted to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad for final approval.
Sources revealed that Dr. Fahd Al-Rukaibi was appointed Chairman of the Roads Authority, while Hamad Al-Mekrad will serve as Chairman of the Investigations Unit, with Yousef Al-Omar as his deputy. Additionally, Qais Al-Nusf, Munira Al-Namash, and Dr. Hanouf Al-Humaidi were appointed to the complaints committee.
The Cabinet reviewed a presentation by Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Abdul Latif Al-Mishari on efforts to remove encroachments on state property. The report outlined the team's work in monitoring violations, issuing violation reports, and implementing legal measures for their removal. Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef emphasized his full support for the Minister and his team, urging strict adherence to regulations and ensuring no leniency in addressing such violations.
The Cabinet also approved the minutes of the Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality, which included cases involving the revocation of citizenship obtained through fraud and forgery, in line with Decree Law No. 15 of 1959 on Kuwaiti nationality.
At the outset of the meeting, the Council lauded the speech delivered by His Highness the Amir’s representative, Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, at the World Climate Action Summit (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Crown Prince highlighted the tangible and accelerating impact of climate change on Kuwait, including rising temperatures, dust storms, and reduced rainfall. Stressing Kuwait's commitment to environmental sustainability, he detailed the nation’s efforts to align economic growth with low-carbon development and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Initiatives include promoting clean energy projects, targeting 50% solar energy in electricity production by 2050, and introducing low-carbon technologies. His Highness also called on developed countries to fulfill their obligations under international frameworks and support developing nations in combating climate change.
The Cabinet noted the role of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in mitigating climate impacts globally, having provided 1,330 loans and grants worth $23 billion to support sustainable development projects.
Additionally, the Council reviewed the outcomes of meetings held by His Highness’s representative on the sidelines of the COP29 Summit. These included discussions with leaders such as Iraqi President Dr. Abdul Latif Rashid, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Kazakh President Qassym-Jomart Tokayev, Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic, and Jordanian Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. The meetings focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional and global developments.
Marking the 54th anniversary of Oman’s National Day, the Cabinet extended heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said and expressed pride in the strong ties between Kuwait and Oman. The Council commended Oman’s achievements and ongoing development renaissance across various fields.
