KUWAIT CITY, Feb 17: The Ministry of Health announced on Sunday a significant medical breakthrough led by Dr. Noura Al-Ibrahim, a specialist in gynecology and urology surgery at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital. Dr. Al-Ibrahim developed a safer and more effective surgical technique for treating advanced ovarian cancer.

The ministry’s statement highlighted that the innovation has been recognized internationally, as it was published in Gynecologic Oncology Reports, the journal of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) based in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Dr. Al-Ibrahim noted that ovarian cancer is particularly challenging to treat, as it is often diagnosed in advanced stages, making surgery a crucial aspect of the treatment. Her newly developed technique offers a safer approach for managing advanced cases, particularly those where the cancer has spread to the intestines.

Publishing this innovation in an internationally recognized medical journal allows oncology surgeons worldwide access to the technique, thus contributing to the global advancement of ovarian cancer treatments and offering patients better outcomes, Dr. Al-Ibrahim explained.

This achievement marks a major milestone in Kuwait's medical community, further demonstrating the country's capability in medicine and surgical innovation. It highlights Kuwait's commitment to improving healthcare not just locally, but on the global stage, by supporting medical research and innovation.

Dr. Manal Jab, Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, praised the technique as a valuable contribution to global efforts to improve women's healthcare. She noted that it aligns with the Ministry of Health's ongoing efforts to develop national medical professionals and encourage scientific research and innovation.

Dr. Jab also expressed gratitude for the continuous support from Kuwait’s Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, and Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Mutairi, who have empowered national professionals to achieve accomplishments that place Kuwait at the forefront of global medical innovation.
