A Kuwaiti doctor in a private hospital is set to stand trial on charges of deceiving a patient.

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 17: In a first-of-its-kind case, a Kuwaiti doctor in a private hospital is set to stand trial on charges of deceiving a patient. He informed the patient that she urgently needed spinal surgery, anesthetized her, and upon awakening, told her, "Congratulations, the operation was successful," before demanding a sum of 6,000 Kuwaiti dinars.

According to court documents, the patient only discovered the truth six months after the incident when she sought a second opinion at another hospital. It turned out she hadn't undergone any surgical procedure; all the doctor had done was anesthetize her for a few hours.

The victim's defense attorney, Hooraa Al-Habib, emphasized to the court that this case is one of the most bizarre in the field of medicine and a violation of Kuwaiti criminal law. In her profession, she called for severe punishment for the accused doctor, stressing the seriousness of the offense.

While the misdemeanor court overturned the public prosecutor's decision to dismiss the case, it has decided to refer the accused doctor to trial once again. He stands accused of deceiving the patient, falsely claiming she needed urgent spinal surgery, and wrongfully taking the specified amount without just cause.
