DAKHLA, Morocco, June 9: The 12th edition of the Dakhla International Film Festival concluded over the weekend, featuring an eclectic selection of cinematic masterpieces from across the globe. Notably, the Kuwaiti film “Amakor” emerged as a standout, captivating both audiences and critics and highlighting the richness of Gulf and Kuwaiti cinema. Zine El-Abidine Charafeddine, president of the festival, expressed his pride in showcasing films from the Gulf region, particularly Kuwait and the UAE, in this year’s lineup.

Speaking to KUNA, he emphasized the festival’s role in acquainting Moroccan and African audiences with the dynamic realm of Gulf cinema, citing “Amakor” as a prime example. Directed by Kuwaiti filmmaker Ahmad Al-Khudari, “Amakor” delves into the story of a young man grappling with amnesia following a life-altering accident. Its exploration of themes such as identity and resilience deeply resonated with viewers, solidifying its status as a festival highlight.

Abdullah Al-Tararwah, one of the stars of “Amakor,” expressed his delight in representing Kuwaiti cinema in the feature films category. In an interview with KUNA, he underscored the importance of showcasing Kuwaiti cinematic achievements on an international platform, reaching audiences and critics across Africa, the Arab world, and Europe. Produced by Ahmad Al-Khudari and written and directed by Mohammad Al-Muhaiteeb, “Amakor” has received widespread acclaim at various Arab and international festivals.
