KUWAIT CITY, Nov 12, (Agencies): Kuwait ranked first in the Arab world and seventh in the world in the Global Giving Index for 2023, issued by the Charitable Aid Foundation (CAF) scoring 57 points. The index is based on three criteria: helping strangers, donating money to a charity, and volunteering in an organization.

Astonishingly, the Kuwaiti people have been recognized as the most generous among Arabs, with 79% of citizens actively assisting strangers, 54% making financial contributions, and 37% dedicating their time to volunteer work. These impressive statistics have propelled Kuwait to the 7th position globally in the World Giving Index for 2023.

Breaking down the numbers, the study revealed that 79% of Kuwaitis acknowledged assisting strangers, while 54% made monetary donations. Additionally, 37% devoted their time to volunteer activities, placing Kuwait at the 5th position globally among countries with actively engaged citizens in philanthropy and volunteerism.

On the broader Arab scale, the World Giving Index for 2023 positions other countries as follows: UAE (11), Libya (44), Iraq (51), Saudi Arabia (69), Comoros (93), Algeria (111), Jordan (124), Palestine (125), Morocco (128), Egypt (129), Tunisia (131), Lebanon (135), and Yemen (140).

Globally, Indonesia takes the lead as the most charitable nation, followed by Ukraine, Kenya, Liberia, the United States, Myanmar, Fiji, Canada, Nigeria, and New Zealand. Conversely, countries like Poland, Croatia, Yemen, Japan, Greece, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Lebanon, Vietnam, and Bulgaria find themselves at the lower end of the generosity spectrum.

The comprehensive study conducted by the Gallup organization, which gathered opinions from 147,186 individuals worldwide in 2022, reflects a global trend where approximately three-quarters of the population engaged in charitable acts.

Kuwait's commendable generosity and philanthropic spirit contribute significantly to the global landscape, underscoring the nation's commitment to making a positive impact on a worldwide scale.
