Kuwaiti ice skating team wins six medals at Dubai Freestyle Skiing Championship

DUBAI, Oct 20: The Kuwaiti ice skating team secured six medals at the Dubai International Freestyle Skiing Championship, which concluded two days ago. The standout performances of sisters Salil and Safaa Al-Abdullah in the women's category helped propel the team to success in the three-day event.

Salil clinched one gold and two silver medals, while Safaa took home a gold, a silver, and a bronze. In the men's category, Salman Al-Kandari finished in tenth place.

Salil told "KUNA" after the competition that the medals were earned in the freestyle slope skiing and freestyle rail skiing events for both individuals and teams. She highlighted the strong competition from Emirati athletes, who displayed high technical skill, and expressed her delight with the results she and her sister Safaa achieved following thorough preparation for the championship.

She also expressed gratitude to the Kuwait Winter Games Club, which oversees ice skating in Kuwait, for its support. She emphasized that this success will motivate them to strive for even better results in future competitions.

The championship, which began last Thursday, featured teams from the UAE, Bahrain, Macedonia, Belgium, Latvia, Greece, Estonia, Poland, Thailand, and Kuwait.
