KUWAIT CITY, Oct 4, (Agencies): Increasing the number of gardeners holds the key to a more environmentally sustainable future, says Kuwaiti organic gardening advocate Alzainah Albabtain. She addressed an audience at Dubai's Museum of the Future during Climate Future Week, emphasizing the water-saving practices adopted by home gardeners, such as drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting. Albabtain stressed the importance of waste reduction through composting and expressed her willingness to share gardening tips to expand the gardening community.
In 2019, AlzainahAlbabtain set a Guinness World Record for the largest gardening lesson, teaching 286 participants the essentials of growing organic produce. Despite her initial skepticism, she fell in love with gardening when she saw lifeless seeds sprout in the desert soil. Albabtain, who shares her gardening journey on social media as @itallgrows, highlighted how gardening brings families together, creating enjoyable experiences like garden harvest parties and competitions.
She emphasized the importance of educating children about where food comes from and the joy of connecting with nature. Albabtain encouraged everyone to try gardening, even in challenging climates, and shared how her social media presence has built a vibrant gardening community. She urged people to take advantage of the wealth of gardening knowledge available on social media and noted the positive ripple effect seen in both current and future generations.
