LONDON, Feb 24: Kuwaiti photographer Mohammad Murad won third place in the 2025 World Nature Photographer of the Year competition with his photo titled "Sword in the Chest." His photograph competed against entries from photographers in approximately 50 countries across 14 categories.
In an interview with KUNA on Monday, Murad explained that the photo captures a dramatic fight between terns in the air, taken on Kuwait's Kubbar Island. He added that three species of terns mate and nest on Kubbar Island every year from May to August.
Murad, who was awarded the bronze medal, expressed his passion for preserving the natural environment by photographing wildlife, particularly birds, in Kuwait, as well as in several European and African countries. Over the years, Murad has received numerous international awards in prestigious wildlife photography competitions.
In November 2023, Japanese imaging giant Canon Europe, Middle East, and Africa named Murad as the first wildlife photographer from the Arab region to join its Canon Ambassadors Program.
The World Nature Photographer of the Year competition, based in the United Kingdom, is one of the largest and most significant annual global competitions focused on nature conservation.
