DOHA, Feb 5: The head of the Kuwaiti sailing team delegation, Ibrahim Al-Furaih, announced that the team has commenced its participation in the Qatar International Optimist Championship 2025, organized by the Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation in Doha.
Al-Furaih explained that the championship began with two races held under light to moderate wind conditions. The tournament consists of 10 races, with points accumulated in each race. The competitor with the fewest points will advance in the overall rankings.
He noted that the Kuwaiti team secured moderate points in the initial races and expressed hope that they would achieve lower scores in the upcoming races to improve their standings in both the general and junior categories.
Al-Furaih highlighted that Hamad Al-Masoud earned a total of 59 points, placing him 26th overall. His ranking was affected by a black flag penalty he received in the first race due to a starting signal violation. Meanwhile, Abdulaziz Al-Mansour accumulated 60 points across two races, securing fourth place in the junior category.
The Kuwaiti delegation includes six sailors: Hamad Al-Masoud, Ali Anki, Badr Bu Hamad, Saleh Al-Madhen, Zakaria Bu Hamad, and Abdulaziz Al-Mansour, under the guidance of coach Ihab Al-Shanabi.
