Kuwaiti shooters continue dominance

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 13: Kuwaiti shooters Rami Al-Mutairi and Mariam Rzouqi each won a gold medal on Tuesday in the men’s and women’s 10-meter rifle events, respectively, at the annual His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah Shooting Championship. Al-Mutairi secured first place, ahead of Abdullah Al-Harbi, who won silver, and Bandar Al-Mutairi, who took bronze. Rzouqi was followed by Retaj Al-Zeyadi in second place and Al-Jouri Mansour in third.

Meanwhile, Bahrain’s team claimed gold in the Arab Shotgun Championship’s 'Trap' event, held alongside the Crown Prince’s Shooting Championship. Kuwait’s team—comprising Abdulrahman Al-Faihan and Sara Al-Hawal—took silver, while Qatar and Oman’s shooters shared the bronze.

Duaij Al-Otaibi, President of the Kuwaiti and Arab Shooting Federations, along with Obaid Al-Osaimi, Secretary-General of the Kuwaiti Shooting Club, awarded medals to the winners.

Today’s events will feature the 50-plate skeet competition (men and women), the skeet finals, and the 25-meter rapid-fire pistol competition.

Duaij Al-Otaibi praised the high technical standards observed in both championships, highlighting outstanding performances by Kuwaiti and Arab shooters. He affirmed that advancing Arab shooting talent is a key objective of this sports gathering. Al-Otaibi expressed gratitude to His Highness the Crown Prince for supporting this championship, which aims to foster shooting sports in Kuwait and the Arab world.

Kuwaiti shooter Sarah Al-Hawal, who earned four medals—two gold and two silver—expressed joy in her achievements, noting the championship’s high level and its role in developing Arab women’s shooting.

Bahraini shooter Marwa Bouarki, who won two golds and a silver, commended the Kuwaiti organizers for their support. She acknowledged the efforts of Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, head of shotgun shooting at the Bahrain Shooting Federation, whose support played a vital role in Bahrain’s success.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa lauded Bahrain’s team for their success, attributing the four medals (two gold, one silver, and one bronze) to dedicated efforts by the players and the Bahrain Shooting Federation. He also praised the organization of His Highness the Crown Prince’s Championship and the Arab Championship for fostering excellence in the sport.
