KUWAIT CITY, Nov 19: Kuwaiti women have made significant strides in medicine and space science in recent years, breaking barriers and reaching new heights in their respective fields. These accomplishments, supported by the Kuwaiti leadership, reflect the essential role women play in advancing global science and technology.
Their achievements extend beyond personal success, contributing to the advancement of international knowledge through active participation in global conferences and events. As part of Kuwait Vision 2035 for sustainable development, Kuwaiti women have demonstrated their capabilities in building and furthering the country's development across various sectors.
One of the prominent figures in the medical field is Dr. Asmaa Al-Kandari, a Consultant of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at Al-Jahra Hospital. Dr. Al-Kandari recently represented Kuwait at the 2024 World Conference on Digestive Endoscopy in Milan, where she was the only participant from the Middle East. In an interview with KUNA, Dr. Al-Kandari shared that she was also chosen to represent the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) in the Middle East.
The conference, she said, was a pivotal moment in her career, as her two endoscopy procedures were viewed by thousands of specialists from around the world. Dr. Al-Kandari expressed her gratitude for the support provided to Kuwait's healthcare sector and emphasized that Kuwaiti physicians have the skills and expertise to make significant contributions to healthcare both regionally and internationally.
In the field of space science and technology, Engineer Lama Al-Oraiman, Vice Chair of the Committee on Connecting Emerging Space Ecosystems in the Middle East and Central Asia at the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), expressed her pride in her position. She also credited the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) for its crucial role in supporting researchers, innovators, and individuals excelling in science and technology.
Engineer Al-Oraiman reflected on the recent announcement of the Kuwait National Space Research Center (KNSRC), which was celebrated under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The Amir emphasized Kuwait's commitment to fostering a scientific environment to support the growth and development of Kuwaitis in various fields.
Furthermore, Engineer Al-Oraiman shared her pride in receiving the IAF’s Emerging Space Leaders Award. She highlighted the importance of greater representation for Kuwaiti women at international conferences and events in the field of space science.
These accomplishments illustrate the continued rise of Kuwaiti women in sectors traditionally dominated by men, affirming their contributions to both local and global advancements in medicine and space science.
