KUWAIT CITY, Jan 8: According to sources from the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, the ministry recently referred the tender for the construction, completion, and maintenance of a new water filling plant in West Funaitees, valued at KD 1.495 million, to the State Audit Bureau (SAB) for study and audit. The ministry is currently awaiting SAB’s approval to proceed with the signing of the contract with the winning contractor. This new water plant will serve as an alternative to the existing freshwater filling station in Mishref for handling the long-standing challenges faced in the area. The project has been part of the ministry’s plan for several years and is aimed at enhancing the provision of fresh water to the surrounding areas. The new plant will help in solving the problems that the area had been suffering from due to the presence of the station, particularly given the high population density in the area. In another development, recent statistics from the ministry revealed that 170 national employees were hired between January 2024 and November 2024, which brings the total number of employees in the ministry to 35,427, including both Kuwaiti and non-Kuwaiti staff, up from 34,395 during the same period in 2023. Kuwaiti employees now represent 97.7 percent of the total workforce, while the number of non-Kuwaiti employees has decreased by 42, from 862 to 820.
