Fest indicates theater’s return to life
AMMAN, Nov 6, (KUNA): The 28th Jordan Theater Festival kicked off on Thursday with the participation of Arab works, coinciding with the Kingdom’s celebrations of the centenary of the founding of the state. The Jordanian Ministry of Culture, the festival’s organizer, in cooperation with the Jordanian Artists Syndicate, decided to name the Jordanian artist Jamil Awwad, one of the pioneers of Jordanian art, who left a few days before this year’s session in appreciation of his extended artistic career. In his opening speech to the festival, Secretary-General of the Jordanian Ministry of Culture, Hazza Al-Barari, indicated that the return to life to the theater in Jordan came after a temporary hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, within specific health controls and requirements.
Performances
Al Barari called on the public to follow up on the festival’s theatrical performances and its accompanying events, which include intellectual, cultural and evaluation seminars with the participation of experts and specialists in the theatrical field. The countries of Iraq, Syria, Tunisia and the UAE, along with Jordan, will participate in theatrical works that will be shown during the festival, which will continue until the 14th of this month, and will include evaluation seminars after each theatrical performance and intellectual seminars entitled ‘Post-Drama Theatre Specialists’ and guests from Kuwait are scheduled to participate in the festival, including Director of the Theater Department at the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters Faleh Al-Mutairi, Professor of Drama at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts Dr. Faisal Al-Qahtani, author and theater director Abdullah Abdul Rasoul, writer and theater critic Alaa Al-Jaber.
