KUWAIT CITY, Dec 1: Informed sources in the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy have revealed a significant drop in the number of non-Kuwaiti employees since the implementation of Civil Service decision No. 11/2017 regarding the Kuwaitization of government jobs. According to the sources, the number of non-Kuwaiti employees in the ministry has decreased by 491, from 1,362 employees to 871 during the 2023/2024 fiscal year. They said the ministry employed 20,440 staff in 2017, with 19,078 Kuwaiti employees (93.3 percent of the total workforce) and 1,362 non-Kuwaiti employees. By 2023, the number of Kuwaiti employees had grown to 33,705, and the number of non-Kuwaiti employees had dropped to 871, reflecting a shift to 97.5 percent of Kuwaiti staff in a total workforce of 43,576. The sources affirmed the ministry’s commitment to the decision of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to nationalize jobs in various sectors. They explained that this strategy aims to create more opportunities for Kuwaiti graduates in different fields. Annual coordination with CSC is carried out to assess the ministry’s workforce needs and to ensure the proper alignment of specialized roles in the ministry’s annual budget plans.
