Kuwait's agricultural production surges to 22.5 million dinars in 9 months

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 3: Kuwait produced approximately 200.5 thousand tons of agricultural goods, covering 72 types including vegetables, fruits, and leafy greens, in the first nine months of 2024, with a total value exceeding 22.4 million dinars, according to official data.

The General Administration of Statistics reported that local agricultural production reached 98.85 thousand tons valued at 9.143 million dinars in the first quarter of 2024. However, production fell by 23.9 percent in the second quarter to 75.225 thousand tons, valued at 9.06 million dinars. This decline continued sharply in the third quarter, with production down by 64.8 percent to 10.744 thousand tons, valued at 1.967 million dinars.

Tomatoes led as the highest-produced crop, with a yield of approximately 68.066 thousand tons, valued at 5.04 million dinars. Cucumbers followed, totaling 40.887 thousand tons worth 4.48 million dinars, while potatoes accounted for 15.66 thousand tons, valued at 2.173 million dinars. Pepper ranked fourth with 12.341 thousand tons worth about 2.42 million dinars, and eggplant totaled 15.833 thousand tons, valued at 2.093 million dinars. Together, these five crops contributed approximately 76.2 percent of the total production, amounting to 15.28 thousand tons, and valued at 16.212 million dinars, or about 72.38 percent of the total product value.

Additionally, Kuwait's lettuce production reached 10.66 thousand tons, valued at 945.4 thousand dinars. Other crops included 6.124 thousand tons of pumpkin at 588.2 thousand dinars, 1.16 tons of okra at 530 thousand dinars, 4.812 thousand tons of cauliflower at 415.766 thousand dinars, and 2.4 thousand tons of zucchini at 403.76 thousand dinars. Cowpea, beans, cabbage, corn, and watercress were also notable, with yields of 936 tons, 933.7 tons, 4.863 thousand tons, 1.321 thousand tons, and 1.315 thousand tons, valued at 364 thousand, 329.7 thousand, 252.39 thousand, 218.2 thousand, and 204 thousand dinars, respectively.
