KUWAIT CITY, April 19: Kuwait's Chest Diseases Hospital has announced the successful implantation of two coronary artery stents in patients suffering from intractable angina pectoris. Dr. Abdullah Al-Enezi, the Head of the Cardiology Department at the hospital, shared this achievement in a press statement on Saturday.

Dr. Al-Enezi emphasized that this success reflects the Ministry of Health's commitment to providing the latest treatment technologies to benefit patients and enhance the overall healthcare system, particularly in the field of heart diseases. He pointed out that such cases, which previously required treatment abroad, are now being handled efficiently within the country.

The two procedures were performed under local anesthesia, with a catheter inserted through the jugular vein in the neck to implant the stents into the coronary arteries, thereby improving blood flow to the heart muscle. The operations were conducted in collaboration with Dr. Khaled Al-Marri, the head of the hospital's cardiac catheterization unit, leading to a significant improvement in the patients' symptoms of angina pectoris.

Dr. Al-Enezi explained that the patients were suffering from severe coronary artery stenosis and had previously undergone both therapeutic catheterization and open-heart surgery to replace arteries. Despite these treatments, they continued to experience persistent and severe angina.

Experts note that atherosclerosis, the primary cause of death both in Kuwait and globally, often leads to heart-related issues like angina. While this condition is typically treated with medication, interventional catheterization, or open-heart surgery, some patients do not respond to these methods and continue to experience debilitating angina.
