KUWAIT CITY, June 27: Brigadier General Muhammad Qabazard, Director of the General Department of Narcotics Control in Kuwait's Ministry of Interior, highlighted significant strides in reducing drug demand during a seminar at Kuwait University's College of Engineering and Petroleum. The event, held under the patronage of Lieutenant General Salem Al-Nawaf, emphasized the theme "Your Life is Your Decision" in observance of World Anti-Drug Day.

Addressing attendees, Major General Hamid Al-Dawas, Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs, conveyed support from top Kuwaiti officials for combating drug-related challenges. He underscored a 20% decrease in drug trafficking crimes from 2021 to 2022, attributing successes to collaborative efforts with Kuwait University and other authorities.

Brigadier General Qabazard reported a 60% increase in families reporting addiction cases last year, resulting in 778 interventions and placements in addiction treatment centers. He stressed ongoing media campaigns aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and encouraged public engagement through a dedicated hotline.

Highlighting World Anti-Drug Day's theme, "The evidence is clear, let us invest in prevention," Qabazard reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to prevention and treatment initiatives. He noted significant seizures totaling three tons and 570 kilograms of narcotics and over 25 million psychotropic pills seized in collaboration with security services and customs.

Ali Dashti, Deputy Director of Drugs and Alcohol Prosecution, outlined legal consequences for drug offenses, emphasizing a 90% conviction rate. He urged parents to report suspicious behavior, highlighting societal efforts to safeguard youth from drug-related harm.

Dr. Fayez Al-Dhafiri, Secretary-General of Kuwait University, underscored the institution's role in promoting societal health through education and research collaborations with the Ministry of Interior. Brigadier General Nasser Busalib, Director of the Security Media Department, emphasized the ministry's proactive stance against drug traffickers, urging parental vigilance during school breaks.

The seminar and exhibition underscored Kuwait's unified strategy against drug abuse, emphasizing community partnerships and educational initiatives to protect society's youth.
