KUWAIT CITY, June 6: The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy is gearing up to distribute the Excellent Business Bonus to its second batch of eligible employees, totaling between 3,500 and 4,000 individuals from various sectors within the Ministry. Concurrently, Dr. Mahmoud Boushahri, the Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, along with the Minister of State for Housing Affairs, has entered into an agreement aimed at modernizing and extending the service life of 8 boilers at the Al-Zour South Station. The agreement also entails the replacement of the control system for boilers and steam turbines, to meet the country’s growing demand for electrical energy.
Additionally, the Ministry has recently inked a memorandum of understanding with the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority to negotiate the purchasing mechanism for electricity from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Moreover, plans are underway to integrate the national network with 300 megawatts from the Sultanate of Oman’s network, a move aimed at reinforcing and bolstering Kuwait's power infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the electricity load index has surged, reflecting heightened consumption rates attributed to soaring temperatures. Yesterday, the load index peaked at 16,120 megawatts, signaling a substantial increase in electricity usage.
Sources within the Ministry disclosed, "Since the onset of this month, the Kuwait Electricity Network has commenced receiving 200 megawatts from the State of Qatar as part of the purchase agreement established with the Gulf Interconnection Authority. Presently, the Ministry is in the process of making arrangements to receive the remaining portion of the agreed-upon electricity supply from the Sultanate of Oman."
