Kuwait’s ice hockey team targets strong start against Kyrgyzstan

HARBIN, China, Feb 2, (KUNA): Kuwait’s ice hockey team is set to take on Kyrgyzstan on Monday in the 9th Asian Winter Games, held in Harbin, China, from February 7-14. The match is part of Group B, which also includes Bahrain and Singapore.

The Blues completed their final training session on Sunday at the tournament's ice rink, showcasing high spirits and strong support from the technical and executive staff.

Speaking to the accompanying Kuwaiti media delegation, the team’s German coach, Andreas Bartkevich, expressed confidence in his players, noting that they possess the skills to secure positive results despite the tough competition. He emphasized that the squad is well-prepared, crediting its recent training camp in the UAE for fostering greater harmony and teamwork among the players.

Team captain Jasem Al-Awadhi echoed the coach’s optimism, stating that all players are determined to give their best in their opening match against Kyrgyzstan. He highlighted the UAE training camp and previous preparations in Kuwait as crucial in implementing the coach’s strategies effectively.

Kuwaiti athletes are competing in four disciplines at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin: ice hockey, figure skating, speed skating, and curling.
