KUWAIT CITY, April 6: The Ministry of Electricity and Water has launched an enhanced advertising campaign for its energy conservation initiative, "Save." This campaign, which includes awareness ads across social media and other platforms, encourages consumers to conserve energy and use it responsibly without waste. The campaign comes as the peak season approaches, with rising temperatures and an increase in energy demand, especially as some units are temporarily out of service for routine maintenance.
In this context, sources reported that the electricity grid showed significant stability over the weekend, following the return of several units to service. This helped boost production and maintain safe operations. During the weekend, the maximum consumption exceeded 10 megawatts, which was fully covered without the need for scheduled power outages.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy is awaiting approval from the Board of Directors of the Central Agency for Public Tenders to proceed with the tender for the expansion of the Subiya Power Plant (Phase IV), which will have a production capacity of 900 megawatts. This expansion is crucial for increasing electricity production capacity. Once approved, the ministry will finalize the remaining procedures and sign the contract with the successful contractor to implement this important project.
Sources explained that the agency had initially refused to tender for the project, citing reasons that were officially communicated to the ministry in a letter. However, following a recent meeting, the agency assured the ministry that the tender would be resubmitted and approved for bidding by competing companies. This would allow the ministry to proceed with obtaining approval from the Audit Bureau and finalizing the contract with the winning company.
It is important to note that the ministry is relying on this tender to significantly boost its electricity production capacity in the coming years. This is particularly crucial as the second and third phases of the Al-Zour North Power Plant project could take longer to complete.
